Took Longnose Elk—my trusty black 2006 Volvo V70 — out for a much-needed spa day at the car wash today. What started as a quick rinse turned into a full-blown detailing odyssey. I’m talking hours.

Vacuuming out gravel, crumbs and cat fur was the easy part. But I scrubbed every surface, polished the windows and mirrors until they sparkled like they belonged on a spaceship, and cleaned the doors from below and refreshed the seals with silicon spray.

By the time I finished, Longnose Elk was gleaming like it just rolled out of 2006. Worth every minute. Feels like I gave an old friend a second wind.

Anyone else get emotionally attached to their car, or is it just me?

I’m the same way! I’ll do that usually I the summer when I have a few days off, usually turns into a two day ordeal but I do enjoy doing it. My cars not even pretty like yours, I’ve got hail damage and scratches and lots of paint chips! That’s a very nice V 70.

Don't get fooled by the photo: the nearly 26 years have taken their toll on the Longnose Elk. But it's in a very good condition and I'll do my best to keep it that way.

I miss those summers in the 90s when my brothers and me handwashed our family's cars, taking a whole afternoon to evening.

New good pump is installed. Duty cycle (FPMP) at idle dropped from 48-49% to 31-32%, this is good.

I may be late to the game but what is that? Live OBDII data?

I lost a close friend a couple of weeks ago and the funeral is tomorrow so in preparation for the sad day I gave Kära her first wash since coating the paintwork in Gtechniq C2 Ceramic sealant. The surface is so smooth and slippery that washing was like skating on ice with the sheepskin wash mitt gliding freely over the paint in a way I have never known before.

Once dry and tucked back in the garage I gave her a second coat of C2 (their blurb states the shine improves with an extra coat, but I'm not so sure)

I replaced my old fluorescent light bulbs in the garage a couple of months ago with LED units and they are super bright so the colour in the first two pictures is rather harsh, but for seeing marks on the paintwork the lights are amazing.

Sorry for your loss.

The paint is amazing, I am afraid before I got my S60, the previous owner had it repainted(most likely after a crash), but it was a sloppy paintjob and the coating has fallen. In fact it fell because of automotive shampoos.

My rear bumper is also fairly bad, it has no clear coat at all and the paint has started chipping.
