Thanks for this tutorial, had troubles with using a too up to date version of windows 10 first. I just used a fully updated windows 10 pc and reset that. I got problems with sqlserver. I then tried windows 10 version 22H2 that some users had success with but still didn’t work for me. The sqlserver service was stuck in starting and never got started. I then tested windows 10 version 1803 and then it all worked great! So I just ordered a cable now, hope it will work ok.

I found a way pass that error but didn’t work for me anyway had to install an older windows 10 version. Thank you so much for making this download and installation guide available. Four years after this original post I can confirm that this step-by-step guide works just fine and is the most complete and most useful guide I have found so far. I only had to shut down Microsoft Defender in order to be able to run the scripts.
After installation I ran VIDA and had the following bug: "getcommtoolsettingsobject(...).diagnosticallowed is not a function"
A helpful suggestion I found on the internet explains how to fix this. Do the following:
1) Launch Microsoft Edge
2) Click on the three dots in the top right corner and select settings from the drop down.
3) Click on Default Browser
4) Under the heading "Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode (IE Mode)" Select Allow from the drop down
5) Restart Microsoft Edge
6) Launch VIDA from the desktop.
7) Before logging in click the three dots and select Reload in Internet Explorer Mode
VIDA will reload and you can use it as normal.
NOTE: This works only after installing the IE Tab extension in Microsoft Edge (Internet Explorer tab extension).
I use a Mongoose JLR 164 Pro to read my Volvo V50 1.6D (engine code D4164T)". That is after I had accidentally "bricked" the original Volvo DICE (purchased second hand for 100 euro) by a firmware update. The cheaper alternative cost me about 17 euros.
The VIDA software confirms what I considered to be the cause of a stubborn anti-skid error and some issues with the ADM.

This step by step guide is priceless. My 2003 Volvo S60 T5 with ~340K miles on it had the classic DIM cluster intermittent working and not going on. Disconnected the battery, pulled the DIM and tried the solder reflow with hot air gun. Worked for a little while then acted up again. Pulled to take a closer look, then reinstalled with battery disconnected, but got the dreaded SRS warning. Sent my DIM off to cboard repair in MO. They repaired and had it back to me within the week with regular shipping. Put it in and still had the SRS warning. Purchased an Autel Autolink AL619 which is supposed to be able to clear the SRS warning, but it would clear and come right back. I knew that I would either have to go to the dealer and spend who knows how much, or go VIDA. I purchased a refurbed DELL laptop with Windows 10 Pro and Intel i7 processor with 500 GB harddrive on ebay for $100, a new Mongoose JLR J2534 v163 (clone) online for $45 and decided I would try the Oraclebox VM from Vxdiag for $5 download. The VM was a super slow loading VM to spin up and could not recognize the Mongoose, so I followed the instructions here and downloaded the iso with qbittorrent and installed the software then got the drivers for the Mongoose from D5T5. Had the same experience with trying to run on edge then switched to IE mode. Fired up the software, then stumbled through the diagnostics and finally was able to clear the warning. I have a strange problem on Vida. Everything was working fine until some weeks ago when I started Vida to diagnose my XC70 MY 06.
I realised that I can not click any more on electronic modules in the diagnostic tab. Same problem on spare parts schemes : I can not click on numbers to access directly the part I click on.
All other function work fine, except clicking on those small rectangles (parts numbers in orange boxes and electronic modules).
I'm using VIDA in Chrome through IE tab. I tested on Edge with the same result.
Maybe I installed on the PC a program that interferes with VIDA ? I recently installed Adobe Acrobat DC...
Any advice really appreciated ! thank you !

Working on getting VIDA installed on my Car Diagnostic Laptop. Just stuck, stuck, stuck. Has anyone managed to clear the SQL2005 update error (where VIDA is somehow detecting SQL2005, even if there is no such thing on the system, nor ever was?). I've cleaned the failed install fully, CCcleaner, etc, verified that the Registry was clean, no left over folders. Same problem.
Stuck at this step. Can't proceed until I clear the detection of SQL 2005 upgrade error in the VIDA install. Flashing to a "fresh install" of isn't really in the cards. I would have to reconfigure a lot of very finicky software.. aka VXDIAG's GMTech2, several code-reader diag programs, HP Tuner, my various Oscilloscope programs and data managers.
None of the other software is utilizing the 2005 version, so I don't get where VIDA is "detecting" it.
