Hi
Im thinking to buy XC90 - 2.5T
year 2010 - 2012
is it true this engine have problem with weak block and cylinder wall ?
if the block and cylinder sleeve are strong and robust, im thinking to remap...bhp not important. Torque need extra
230 bhp and 350-380 nm just nice
thank you

Cut/paste from another forum where this same question was asked:
Not sure where you're posting from but if it's in the US, the North America market only saw the 5 cylinder in the XC90 from MY03 to MY06. International market continued the 5 cylinder as manufacturing was moved to China (2014) but North America shifted to the 3.2 NA I6 beginning MY07 and the 5 was no longer offered.
This is what I believe North America got in the XC90-:
B5254T2- turbo 2.5 I5: MY03-06
B6294T- turbo 2.9 I6: MY03-06
B6324S- normally aspirated 3.2 I6: MY06-13
B8444S- normally aspirated 4.4 V8: MY05-11
I know of larger turbo mods and remapping, someone on Swedespeed did an R motor drop-in back in 2015 so you have some demonstrated options to increase performance with this motor. If you're wanting the 5 cylinder, skip 03-04 as they have the older electronics modules. That leaves you with 05 and 06 (think higher than 134000 for last 6 of VIN) if you're in North America. See here for reference:

As noted on the other Volvo forum thread, OP is from Malaysia where there are MY10-12 5 cylinders to be had. Shoulda looked more closely at the flag and paid attention to noted location in the signature. Good luck with your tune.
