Well, I decided to change out the spark plugs on my old wagon and was able to get 4 out of 5 removed and replaced. The problem one as I was attempting to loosen it, actually got tighter as I went along. The man upstairs told me to stop right there and re-tighten until I get a better answer on what to do. I was afraid I might break off the ceramic part or something else would go wrong. There was a little blackened oil also around my socket when I pulled it out. Any thoughts as to how to proceed?

I suspect you have some carbon galling the end of the thread. Try some penetrating oil in the spark plug hole and wait for it to do some work. Then try to tighten and loosen in small increments. Do not exceed normal plug torque spec. Keep working and relubricate if needed.

Common problem in these cars.
Undo 1/4 turn, this will give a gap similar to thickness of a business card.
Then spray WD-40, PB Blaster etc down the hole and let it sit for 5 min.
Now turn it CW (no need to tighten it), then CCW.
Repeat the cycles many times, it will eventually come out.
For installation, I usually add Permatex anti-seize, the equivalent of a drop. This has helped me in the last 20 yrs bc it is much easier at the next spark plug change.

I have taken up to 40 mins to get one plug out that was like this using this method. Patience (I was born with a shortage of it!
) is the key here and not forcing it.
Some modern plugs claim to have an anti-seize in the threads to prevent this, but with plug life become so long in some case, I still use a plug thread anti-seize on the threads when installing.

The anti-seize I have is specific to this job. It can like a wax pen. I don't know if it is a particular make up of materials or if regular anti-seize paste is ok.
