Hi ,
Question
We ordered a new car ( Toyota) , went to pick it up and notice a 1" scratch in the paint on rear door. Sales guy says "oh we'll buff it out" . 30 min later, in the light a low spot is visible where the buffing was done. We reject it without signing , say please make the repair invisible, they say they'll send it to a body shop to have it done by professionals.
Can they layer on clear coat and make it level again without compromising the quality of factory paint job ?
Should I walk away from this car?
Thanks .

Walking away from Toyota? Unless it is Tundra or Tacoma, average wait time is about 4-6 month for Toyota. If the scratch is really minor, I would possibly ask for $500 off and put it to the "cosmetic repair fund". Chances are the next trip to hospital or market it will be scratched by "nice" people that dont care about their own cars, much less about yours. Not a specialist in car paint, but as far as I understand clear coat has some depth which can be polished away prior to hitting the paint. In order to make it seamless, area larger than scratch will need to be buffed out to make it more appealing.
