I used a twine rope I found in wife's garden supplies.

Problem is that the wire he was using broke! Big Al has to now find a way to feed something from one side of the tank to the other to attach a new pull rope/string/wire.
My buddy (ex-Volvo mechanic) says this job is best done with 2 people. One feeding the pump back in and a 2nd pulling the wires back through to the level sensor side. Another, "why did you do it this way?" Made more sense to have the level sensor fed from the pump side and the cable to it that can be disconnected both ends.
Neil.

When I did new senders in my tank I must have gotten it tangled in the hose somehow. My gauge stops moving at just over a half a tank, so I have to go by safe mileage.
This is a job better done out in the alley or street with an empty tank I think.

Big Al is talking about draining the tank as he found the fumes overwhelming!
Good advice!

Ok, so it's buttoned up and running.
No check engine light.
Had a few bulbs go out, so I replaced those.
Will post pics of the bulb numbers from the parts catalog for everyone's reference.
Now have to get EVAP. O2S. and CAT code to reset. Usually when I take a long drive on the highway, out to my friends house, it will set the O2S and the CAT
EVAP is the tough one. But I think I can have one one monitor not reset and still pass emissions.
Any tricks on this stuff? I've been looking around the internet and found a few, just wanted to ask you guys.

Ok TEAM!
just did this..see below... ...and O2S and the meow meow CAT monitors set! Only EVAP monitor is left.
I think in Virginia, USA, there can be one monitor still not ready and you will pass VET aka Virginia Emissions Testing.
This is the drive cycle I did.
Yes, try this -
Start the engine and keep it idle for two and a half minutes, keeping the rear defroster and AC on.
## Drive the vehicle at a steady speed of 55 MPH
Now, switch the rear defroster and ac off and keep the speed of your vehicle at 90 km/hr (55MPH) nearly for 3 minutes. During this period, the purge and fuel monitor diagnostics will take place.
## Decelerate your vehicle’s speed at 20 MPH
Make the speed of your vehicle fall gradually up to 32 km/hr (20 MPH). Avoid touching/shifting of clutch or brake.
## Again speed up
Drive your vehicle back to 55MPH (90 km/hr) at 3/4 throttle for nearly five minutes. The catalyst monitor diagnostics will take place during this period. If the battery is detached or the catalyst is not ready, it might take five complete driving cycles to decide the status of the catalyst.
## Stop the vehicle
Now, make your vehicle slow down and allow it to sit idle for 2 minutes.

You need to keep the AC off for EVAP TO SET. The cat cycle sets on overrun, with no fuel being injected , so you need multiple coasts down ftom 55 to stop to quickly set that one with the fuel trim in closed loop. Keep speeds under 60 mph.
I don’t know how the rear defroster sneaked into the lore of cycle readiness testing. Funny. Evap test will run after coast down, idling in drive with foot on brake, like a stop light. This needs about 60 seconds to run the test. It will try only three times during a given drive so if it Does not set after a few minutes , don’t bother driving around , you have to start a new cool engine drive cycle
