1999 ME7 flooded engine, does flooring gas pedal stop fuel being injected?

Post by abscate »

Per subject line

Does anyone have info if ME7 , 1999- engine management has a feature to shut off fuel injection during cranking to aid in starting a flooded engine?

How about Montronic 4.4 ?

I believe that procedure works on carburetors or throttle bodies that are cable operated. In those days, pushing the pedal to floor while NOT cranking the engine, opened the butterfly and allowed air in without any gas being squirted in. You just held the pedal open for a bit to let things air out.
I can't see how that would work with a ETM, since there is no mechanical way to just open the butterfly alone.

It would be interesting to find a fuel shut off feature at full throttle while cranking. Most younger drivers would have no idea to try this. A hidden Easter Egg.

You've asked a question I would never have thought to ask, so naturally no help. I'm assuming you mean flooded by fuel and not water......!

I would have just pulled the plugs, pulled the fuel pump fuse or relay and spun the engine and left it over night to evaporate.

I'd also leave the plugs out to allow them the dry out. At home I would also plow them out with air.

You never stopped learning on here!

A throttle body can't even be flooded since it hasn't any fuel in it. So I'd think the easiest way would be to just pull the injector relay and turn the engine over a few times. That should clear any fumes out of the cylinders.

I might be wrong, but I think abscate was interested in diagnostic testing value of "clear flood mode".(see compression test or attempting to clean extra fuel from engine). I know that most of Fords still support this feature(at least my 15 F150 has), but dont know about this generation of volvo Motronic 4.4

Correct from Rochester, City of Light and Bears

BMW has this feature and I think they run a lot of ME7 adaptations
