2005 S60 AWD Turbo - Coil Springs

Post by jotoya »

Hello,

I purchased a pair of Sachs Volvo Quick Strut Assembly struts from FCPeuro back in 2017. A year later, the passenger coil spring busted out of the blue - Disclaimer: I am a "Driving Miss Daisy" type driver - no hard breaking, do my best to avoid pot holes, etc. Needless to say I was stunned. Called FCP they replaced them with a new set. This second set was replaced by a professional mechanic. Almost 6 years later, today, the driver side coil busted, while parked, just by me opening the door and sitting in the car! I am baffled.

Looking for some suggestions. Should I opt for another quick assembly struts by a different manufacturer or purchase Volvo springs and perhaps Bilstein struts separately?

Many thanks!

Those quick struts were junk. Same story on my 01v70xc. Sachs stopped making them anyway. All chineesium quick struts are junk. Save yourself headache and just buy individual parts to assemble oem style strut(original springs not mubea, lesforders or whatever else fcp sells. Oem only and you will be happy you did it.

I honestly not a big fan of volvo springs at all. Just replaced rear springs on 2015xc60 since one broke at 67k. Volvo parts department STOCK them and told me "yes we sell them often". With my 01v70xc I could possibly see the argument that it is regular wagon that was lifted and thus all parts experience higher wear and tear(ok, bearing, ok ball joints-both parts junk at 50k, but it is ok for me) springs is different beast. My first oem broke at 170k. Sachs quick struts lasted 1 year and broke almost spreading front tire. Replaced with Lesforders(was poor at that time and though car will not last that long) and those lasted 2 years and one broke on the turn from garage(glad this time I didn't have to replace all 4 tires again). I bought oem springs, and components(up to a top plastic cover on a strut) and it is great for 3+ years and 70k or so. Haven't seen anything like this in any toyota of similar miles(67k give me a break) that we have in a family. Sorry venting.

I agree Vova585. Toyotas and Hondas don't seem to suffer from these issues but I will say that up until I bought these garbage struts from Sachs, I've NEVER had one break on my S60 or my 96 850. Thanks for the answers and hey, we all need a bit of venting every now and then.

Cheers!
