How to test VVT solenoid

Post by Sveedy »

I had a DTC 1332 pop up ( it hasn't returned ) which apparently is related to the VVT solenoid. So I'd like to check mine.
Does anyone know how to test one using a ohm meter ? I found a post where someone explains what the readings should be, but is a bit vague about how exactly how to do it. I just want to make sure that I understand things correctly. I'm thinking that I touch the pins on the solenoid to harness connection with the meter, while everything is connected and the engine running ?

You check resistance of stuff with everything disconnected. In ohm mode, your meter is in a short condition do any voltage you apply will pop a meter fuse (Fluke) or blow it up ( harbor fright).

Of the course, your Fluke fuse costs more than the HF meter….

Once disconnected ,touch the probes to the metal connectors inside. The nominal spec is 27 ohms ( fact check?)

Proper resistance is a necessary but not sufficient test of a good VVT or camshaft reset valve in Volvo world

The CVVT solenoid can get carboned up with old oil over time. Removing it and giving it a good clean and checking the small filter in the gasket is not clogged is worth a check.
