After a bit of a hiatus from Volvo ownership, I’m finally starting my dream build using a Volvo 5 cylinder. It will be somewhere between a 1930's Bugatti and a hotrod. I needed the engine to start he frame design process so I pull the trigger on a B5234T3 from a 2002 C70 this week, along with a 960 bellhousing and oil pan from a salvage yard. I got the engine wiring harness and ECU, but unfortunately, the ignition system and other related wiring were gone. Originally I was looking for a complete car to avoid figuring this out, but I couldn’t pass up an engine with 47k miles over the 300k mile cars I was looking at.
Is there hope for getting this engine running using used parts? And which parts would I need?
I've been researching, but keep finding conflicting information about what components are VIN specific or linked. I’ve found a lot of the parts on ebay, but I'm not confident in what would require dealer programming.
So far I think I need:
- Ignition switch
Antenna ring
Matched key
Immobilizer control unit
Dash wiring
Gauges?
Or am I totally misguided and should just get a MaxxECU and their wiring harness. I like to tinker and learn, I'm not in a rush, and I'm not currently planning any changes that would require turning, so I would like to avoid dropping $2k for the stand alone setup that will likely sit around for long time when they won't really impact the rest of the build.
Any info, advice, or parts suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
