Whatever minimum you think "require" means. I'd define that as moderately alert, able to think clearly.

Ideally 8 or thereabouts. What I get is anywhere from 5 to 9 on a given night. As a pilot, my circadian rhythm is usually blown so I try to sleep when I'm tired and get up as soon as I awake, whatever time that is. I look forward to winter when the nights are long, sometimes I get 10 or 12 hours sleep!
