Yeah...but wouldn't the worm gear prevent the spur gear from turning?
When you do turn the spur gear, what are you doing? ..what drives the glass?

Didn't some old BMW's have a little hole in the ceiling, and a splined tool in the trunk box that turned the sunroof gears manually to get it shut?

Old school BMW.
Today, you must bring it to a 'tech' who is a tail-less monkey who then consults with the Senior BMW Hans, then takes 4 hours at $190 to turn a triple triangle fitting with a proprietary BMW tool to partially close your sunroof, then duct tape a garbage bag over the rest.
Dont forget $25 shop supplies and $35 environmental fee.

Someone, probably the previous owner had duct tape the sunroof of the 2002 V70 XC we purchased. Due to health reasons have put off even the small details of the car. Got too hot this summer and the duct tape came undone and wife said car was making lot of noise and gotten worse as it was on the freeway.
Took me awhile before I had a chance to drive it. When I finally drove it around town I thought something had totally came undone inside the sunroof till I happen to look on top after stopping. The thick, dried rigid length of tape was slapping and chopping the glass and roof so was really, really loud. Well, it came undone again due to the extended hot weather though it has been cool this week. Good thing we have a back up car.
(EDIT: Not just any duct but heavy duty Gorilla Duct)
.
