98 V70 trailer Topic is solved

Hello! This first post is a reintroduction of sorts. I hope everyone is doing well.

1. In 2020-21, I was working on making my former black XC into a trailer here viewtopic.php?p=560998&hilit=trailer#p560998, similar to the blue 850r/v70r.
2. In 2024, I had inquired about, and was close to, replacing the steering rack on the red V SE/GT.
I have not provided any updates since then but I have plenty now and this is the start of something cool.

When I was providing updates on the XC trailer build, someone had said the FWD model would have been lower to the ground and lighter, making a better load/drive trailer experience. This was when I started having doubts about that build. So here I am with a fwd model that has too much to fix.

This morning was when I remembered my XC build and found the dead end with no updates. I want to say I am sorry for leaving y'all hanging on that. This one should be satisfactory for all of us.

Later, I will post some current pre-project pics and ideas from the last few months. Got some good ones. Also I will share a couple memories...

It’s on late. We already had a funeral and buried a pristine 1998 R just outside Antlers Ok in your memory.

Here are all my ideas. Some are only pictures with drawings. Captions include details.

1. Im going to get the rear windows functional; currently they are non-functional.
2. I am unsure if permanently attaching a towbar would be a bad idea. Maybe a custom fabbed tongue instead? FYI, these have hollow rails on the bottom of frame.
3. I plan to have 3 lead acid batteries mounted somewhere.
4. I plan to refab the C pillar tweeter inserts to accomodate triple size. Possible speaker setup: 4 3" tweeters, 2 6.5" speakers, 2 6x9 speakers, 1 6.5" sub, 1 10" sub, 2x 200w Volvo c70 amplifiers
5. I hope to design a safe quick-disconnect unbreakable unleakable fuel line going from Volvo tank to tow vehicle. If not, gas tank will either be modified to siphon emergency fuel or removed altogether to reduce weight.
6. I will either install a window washing reservoir and motor for the rear wiper or remove wiper motor and replace with rubber plug.
7. I will strip off OEM carpet from floorboards and staple on some stiff or plush carpet.
8. Take note of the leather samples with teeth marks for durability testing. I'm considering add luxurious pillows.

On Monday, I am going to order a new tripod for my bridge camera. I won't bother filming the removal of the basic parts. I will film the engine/trans disconnect/removal process. Then I will film tearing down the engine. It has ~277k miles.

Obviously all of this will take a while, not including editing the video footage.

It will be quite fun, but it will also test my strength, self-control, and tolerance.

As a result of some other ideas I ran into a few months ago, there might also be two other projects that branch off of this one.

The real reason for this post is to share the estimated associated costs of the main project. A few, such as speakers and pillows, are non-essential for the trailer itself.

A couple updates.
1. I probably won't be able to replace the factory brakes with electric. I cannot find a small size. it is likely going to be unnecessary because the trailer will be about 1,500 pounds which I think is plenty light enough without brakes.
2. I might still use the factory handbrake with a shorter/modded cable.
3. My DSLR tripod is being delivered tomorrow. However, I probably won't get to the beginning stages of tear down until at least Friday 29th next week. The video link will not be available until probably that Saturday or Sunday.
