Hello & Questions about RTI and HU-803 (V70 T5 2001)

Post by TheFuchs »

Hello from Germany...got me a T5 recently and want to work down the list of changes/things one by one.

Starting with the audio/MM equipment which consists of a HU-803 and RTI. Here are the problems:

- RTI does not work at all (fuses already checked), monitor does not do s*it
- HU-803: CD does not work. Also, no access to the "hidden menu".

Preowner has connected a Yatour CDC emulator, but I don't really like it. I would like to have a simple 3.5 mm input for the external DAB receiver which is now connected to the Yatour but gives me an acoustic rev counter.

I'd like to keep the original radio unless someone comes up with a solution for a better HU which does not require me to acquire a bachelors degree for using it (like effin' around with Android  ) without causing more catastrophies.

Thanks for your patience...

I plan to throw my radio in the river and get a double DIN with LCD screen, front and rear cameras.
Volvo radios aren't exactly up to volvo quality.

Well, I'd like to keep the center speaker and the original amps...most of todays aftermarket units are quite a disappointment, compared to what was offered in the 1990s and 2000s. Plus that BUS system crap and my reluctance to dig deeper into that topic. :D

The modern head units are a challenge for sure. There is a former MVS member who is a friend of mine based in Germany who is designing a interface type system for his families P3 as the Volvo system has many limitations. Hopefully this will be successful in the future. It is a hobby project but it is well on it's way. There are double din units out there for P2 cars and also bluetooth adapters that can be added into the wiring without cutting the harness. Plug-and-play. Never used them but considering this for our son's 06 XC70 as the FM transmitter unit blew 2 fuses in his car.

I used to be a car stereo freak in the 80s and 90s but have lost interest in installing complete systems as it had become the equivalent of open heart surgery and KI programming. Besides, I'd like to retain the original components (though they could admittedly being better but okay, that's 20 years before).

I have ordered some filters to hopefully tackle that acoustic rev counter. Still, I would like to have access to that "hidden menu" and make the monitor work again. Guess I have to see a Volvo dealership for that in the (small) hope to find someone who knows that Volvo built cars in the pre-Chinese era.

My wife is in the process of acquiring a 1991 245...guess that installing a stereo in this babe will be a little bit easier. :D
