Been a mix for me. I've gotten 6 auction cars, and I've only replaced the tires on the 850. I need to replace the tires on the Focus.... treads not bad, age is fine, but the cheap tires are horrible in the winter. The S70 had Pirellis that were starting to crack, but otherwise did fine. My Cadillac came with decent tires, but I swapped in wheels/tires from another car because I found a good deal on another factory rim design that I liked. My Mercedes has pretty old tires, but they're holding up... it's mostly been sitting any way. The spare on the Mercedes is a full size tire from 1996 :D

Speaking of auction cars, today, I'm going to go look at a V12 Jaguar that I don't need.

I think my Kars for Kids Kollege will take care of some of these

The Creatir laughed at those plans so far, every single car bought at auction ( N=6) has had like new rubber

A new to you truck with good rubber is a total score. Sometimes in trafffic, I ask Siri to price the tires on the 20 inch monster truck next to me. Some of them are $600 a piece. Imagine rolling down the road on $2400 of tires! Thats 5 Volvos!!
Exactly!

Had a laugh earlier. Got an email from one of our 2 local dealer shops. They have a customer with a 91 240 but can't find anyone to repair or service it. Would I be able to help them!

I wrote back I can talk to them and see if I can help at all as most of there mechanics are younger than the car! I really don't want to make the repair thing a job, but helping out another owner I will try to do!

That's hilarious... same thing is happening in the BMW world. Dealers aren't typically servicing 90s-2000s models anymore, since they don't train them for these cars. Which is hilarious to me, since they're insanely simple to work on.

Has that world really degraded to trained monkeys?

Are you talking about me?

Then it is not me as I am an un-trained monkey.............! :D

Problem for most dealers is most want a car in and out quickly. No diagnostic tools for the older cars so younger guys don't know how to diag old cars. In tis case being a 91 there are more issues than earlier ones as likely is fuel injected. :(

I guess we will see where this goes.

In fairness, if they had gone to the other dealer, there are a couple of mechanics still there that would probably know these cars to work on. The original dealer owner had older Volvos they maintained for him a a few of his friends including a PV544.

Yes

Luckily I'm a self taught monkey, so I'm happy to take on all the work the dealer is afraid of!

It's been a quiet time for Val the Volvo, after the Moffat show the car has sat unused in the garage while I took care of the latest member of the family who arrived with us on 5th July. I don't remember my previous puppies being so much work but it's great fun and worth the effort.

Today I took Val and Brodie to the Auchlochan show, one that I've attended for the last few years and the lawns we drive across and park on are always immaculate

Went out to tinker with Volvos and got caught.

Honey, could you move a few bushes for me?
Which ones?
I’ll come show you….
