I'm sure we have had this conversation before. This oil is listed as for diesel engines. I was always told this was not suitable for gasoline engines. I have looked at it many times but have not pulled the trigger because of that. Oh, and they are selling it up here from Amazon for $160 CDN!

This is old stock and the back label should have API SN for gas engines. From Bob The Oil Guy discussions Shell's email indicated the formula never changed just the label. What they didn't say about removing the SN was it's a marketing move to gain a larger market share by introducing the Shell Rotella Gas Truck Full Synthetic Motor Oil.

I didn't care for it as it's made for much newer vehicles so no 0W & 5W40. The Gas Truck didn't feel as good in the 2019 Atlas VR6 4Motion (brother's now) vs Castrol 0W40. Looks like it didn't take off as you can't find it on Amazon and Walmart is Out Of Stock.

Started using the T6 around 2012 in about 8 different vehicles half being Volvos. Going back to it after a lot of experimentation except for the 2020 Tiguan. Go with Castrol 0W40 or 5W40 if it's reasonably priced in CA.

Stocked up on the 306 & 308 during left over Close Out. Was Googling and wow the prices. Excellent Formula so use one quart in oil change as an additive. Helps with oil consumption, quietness and MPG.

I have read a lot on the subject as it has frustrated me that there is no clear guidelines on the use of this oil. I regularly see it for sale at our local Princess Auto sale at a good price (similar to Harbor Freight). I used 5W-40 for the 00R is that is what is spec'd for it anyway. I might try it in the Toyota 4Runner too if I keep it much longer. I have already bought oil for it for it's overdue oil change!

Thanks for the info. I have reached out to Shell Canada for their viewpoint and will update if/when I get a response.

Good to know you have used it successfully over such a long time. I have read of others with similar stories.

Glad you have access to it cheaply. Won't hurt to try it and what you'll find is the oil doesn't feel worn with use on a regular change interval. The Subby review mentioned Mobil 1 and that's exactly what the engine feels like in several cars especially at WOT. At the time of re-experimenting maybe in the early 2020 when Costco began to carry the 5W40, the 240K Odyssey sounded like the lower end was being punished at WOT.

Have had the Odyssey for 100K miles and it was the first to use the Rotella T6 so have had lots of miles to confirm quality. It also used other oils during that time but the T6 is the most stable and consistent performer not counting the cost prohibitive Swepco which was used for two changes. One was 10K and the other perhaps 12K to 15K, yep that good. Of all the oils used none made the engine feel anemic and about to break apart when pushed, like the Mobil.
.
In case the 5W50 was too small to notice. Good oil and used 1 quart in the 2020 Tiguan during DYI warranty changes along with the factory VW 0W20 oil. This before finding the Swepco Close Out stock. Quieted the clacking Miller Cycle 2.0T engine and reduced the inherent (faulty engineered) oil consumption.

The rock-bottom cheapest way to buy Rotella T6 is still (always?) through Shell's rebate program. That route beats this Amazon price handily if you can find the product for even a reasonable price at a qualified retailer:

https://rotella.shell.com/en_us/promos- ... xvY2F0b3Iv

The rebate is $40 on the 3-gallon pack, but Amazon.com is not a qualified retailer, nor is Walmart.com but Walmart stores are, and many other locations. Sams Club qualifies, where the 3-gallon pack is currently $67, so about $30 final cost for 3 gallons.

Or you can get 2.5 gallons many places for about $55, and the rebate on that purchase is $25.

With Shell's rebate program the payout comes as a virtual MasterCard.

I just stock up on 5w-40 using the rebate when I see a good price, and use the same oil on the whole fleet. That way I don't have to think about which oil, what price, etc. etc. Been happy with it the past 10 years or so, paying $10-$15 per gallon.

Today the 3-pack runs $53 for me at Sam's Club - I checked in their app instead of on a web site.

I only bought one case as that is the rebate limit this time around but $56 with tax minus $40 rebate means $16 final cost for 3 gallons.

Thanks MoVolvos for the heads-up to get the ball rolling!

Due to my health I must not be focused as I couldn't make heads or tails of the coupon. Well, only returned one item from the thousands of dollars of FCP product. That return was right after purchase when it broke during installation. As for Sam's couldn't find the cheaper stuff online for NC.

Yeah, I think it's a local close-out price for me. Wish I could get the rebate on more than one case. But even at the $75 price you show for NC, $75 - $40 rebate = $35 for a 3-pack, still much cheaper than the current Amazon special discount.

I still think the best value to oil is on the back end
