Fuse 6 Blowing on 1999 S70 AWD

Post by OberonXIV »

Hey all,

Today, I did two things: replaced the trunk latch assembly and the passenger side latch assembly. The trunk latch and actuator work beautifully, and while the lock motor does not function on the passenger side door, it now can lock, which is what I was at least going for. Afterwards, while trying to start the car, I was met with relay clicking. After a visual inspection of the fuses, I assumed that the immobilizer was active, and tried to reset. No dice. I then pulled all the suspect fuses, and tested them with my multimeter, and found that fuse 6 was blown. After replacing, the car still wouldn't start, until I replaced the battery with a known good one. After I got it to start, I then started messing with the central locking to try and diagnose the lock mechanism, it died again after about three or four presses. Fuse 6 blew again, and I verified that no other related fuse was blown. Does anyone here have any ideas before I start tackling it tomorrow morning?

What is fuse #6 listed for? I don't have a fuse listing to hand.

Fuse 6 is listed as Central Locking underneath the fuse box cover.

I would move to that passenger door and inspect wiring for damage.

I don’t think the s70 suffers the fate if the wsgons which develop shorts in the tailgate hinge wiring.

Don’t wear jeans while testing, you are looking for shorts

S70 and 850 sedans are equally likely to failing wiring harness on the LHS where the wiring harness stretches from the inner fender to the trunk hinge. Based on your issues, I'd check the wiring harness for split or shorting wires in that area.
