Now THAT was entertaining and educational!

What about these good-looking Swedish ABBA singing clamps that the kids at ipd sell?

So isn't the coolant system on cars usually running around 16psi ?
I'll go ahead and chance it with clamps that can handle 500 - 1000psi. Just call me a man of danger...

Wow what a lot of input for a fairly simple task, but I guess if you don't know you don't know! It is hard to explain how hard to tighten the clamp. I seldom have had issues on clamps being re-used on the original hose it was on. I have had a few with new rubber hoses as they get warm and 'relax' they have weeped a little requiring a 'nip up' to reseal them.

Volvo did have a torque somewhere I read a long time ago, maybe for the turbo hoses, but can't recall now. I do recall tightening them to the prescribed value, but then having to re-tighten as the hoses settled.

I don't mind either type of clamp. Most places I use oetikers are areas I don't plan to remove for a good long time. I have tools that allow perpendicular access as well as straight on. I think both tools were Lisle branded.

With the clamps I try to only use the ABA or Norma type, but I have had the crappy ones from Volvo and took them back!

Neil.

I crank them down until the band cuts into the hose, the screw slots cheese grater the rubber, and the hose buckles! ..and then another half turn! Just in case.

I have not seen that episode. I'll have to look for it. I've purchased several items after Project Farms evaluations.
