P80 to P2 rim and tire swaps - Can it be done?

Post by scot850 »

I am well versed on the P2 to P80 rim swaps and the issues you have to watch out for. But what about the opposite?

A buddy of mine had his 99 V70 GLT written off in an accident but still has the rims and tires. One set is a 15" wheel and tire set. In his case this will not fit his P2 replacement as it is a 07 V70 T5. I'm fairly confident it needs at least a 16" rim to clear the front brake calipers. I know I have seen lower models on 15" rims but they are likely running the 280 (286mm?) rotors and calipers. I think the T5 came as standard with the 305? mm rotors which on a P80 will only just fit in the 16" rims.

The offsets should be ok as a standard P80 rim is 43mm v's a P2 at 49mm, so the rims will fir 6mm further out. Should clear everything.

The main issue I can think of is that the P2 lugbolts are a larger diameter thread than a P80. So are a P80 rim holes big enough to clear a P2 lugbolt?

Has anyone tried this swap and had success? The center bores are the same.

I ran 16 inch rims with my 08 s60 which likely had the smaller rotors. I've run 15 inch rims extremely tightly with no issues on the lug sizing at all. My winters are 16 inch alloys from a 99 S70 T5.

That being said, the 16 inch alloys will fit the lug slots if i remember correctly so dont worry about that.

The hole pitches are the same. It is the hole diameter and the taper I was wondering about. I realized I have a spare set of P80 rims and spare P2 lugbolts. D'oh! We also own one of each, P80 and P2.....................
