I did this on the 98 S70 T5 in 2012 the year I joined MVS. The video is very detailed just apply it to the Volvo. Probably been using this method before 2000 though majority of the time in those days it was through a shop that I used which maintained the half a dozen cars I was in charge of. Personally, have done a dozen or so. Due to current heath issue I only did an extract and fill on the 00 S70 SE, 02 V70XC and 05 GS430 (Sold), within this year.

Mine is the 8L purchased in 2018. Video is of larger 9.3L. Anything with less capacity than 8L will likely require emptying during a change.

Yes, had I used the second tube attachments it would have been higher so no need for the funnel .

ok Change #1 done last night. The fluid was dark but did not smell burnt. The magetic plug was surprisingly clean. Happy about that. I am going to run 4 cycles to achive 90%. Once I get this accomplished, based upon how dirty the fluid was, I plan to run a single cycle when i next change oil (3000 miles) as an intermediate check on the fluid and then I will cycle it every 30K.

I forgot to add.... after this and upon 30k I plan to switch to the Gibbons method and replace the fluid wholesale from there on out.

For those who may be curious here is an update:
again - am draining 3.5 quarts and refilling, running at 50-100 miles, draining, refilling, running 50-100 etc
I initially decided to run 4 cycles which gives me a 90% replacement. Depending upon the results of the 4th cycle I will decide if a fifth is warranted.

Cycle 1 - initial draining - fluid was dark brown - but not burnt
Cycle 2 - drain after first drain refill - fluid was still brown though noticeably lighter in color
Cycle 3 - While draining - I could see light through the fluid coming out. Noticeable lightening of fluid color
Cycle 4 - not done yet weather got in the way...

On a side note, has anyone else switched to Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic ATF and noticed a louder 1st gear and reverse? Seems like I’m getting a bit better gas mileage but after a gibbons method exchange from the Mobil 1 3309 a few months back I’ve noticed this on an AW42-AWD.
