Volvo C30 headlight issue- Low beams not working in "ON" posistion

Post by 2conner4u »

I’ve got a 2013 Volvo C30 with the base halogen headlights. When the headlight switch is in the OFF position, my low beams work at full brightness (as they normally do in DRL mode). But when I turn the switch to the ON position, the headlights shut off completely, only the parking lights stay on. High beams are flashable but don’t stay on and headlight washers also don’t work when this happens. I’ve already tried putting in new bulbs, disconnecting the battery overnight, and clearing any stored codes with a regular scanner, also checked the high beam fuses, headlight washer relays, and anything else related. I don’t think there's a dedicated low beam fuse on this model. if anyone could help me I’d appreciate it. also any other fuses to check?

I would suggest buying access to alldata diy for 1 month. You need exact wiring diagram to figure out how this system operates. I am not an expert in diagram interpretation, so i prefer redrawn diagrams in comparison to volvo oem. On my quick search I found this https://fixmycarinfo.com/volvo/c30/volv ... -diagrams/
Looks like page 72 has your switch, but it is hard for me to follow on the cellphone screen.
I think we even have wiring diagrams someone on this website. Based on my quick look, this system is controlled by CEM. Switch is not load carrying and just "messenger" to cem who controls relays. You have intact wiring to the headlights if your DRL are working and high beams are flashing on demand. I wpuld suggest that you need vida or capable tool to see if CEM recognizes that switch was turned into position 2. This way you will know if the problem with the switch or not. But vida is complicated and takes time. Erie vovo sells this switch for 25+shipping. I would likely risk and buy one for this price and play "parts cannon". If all fixed-great. If not, alldata with exact diagrams and vida are the must. Good luck.
