ECT 9125463 THERMOSTAT BOLTS
Pretty straightforward first problem with, “Tosh” a Capital donor
AC works great, but fan runs on for 6 minutes 11 seconds after key put.
Scanned codes and got p0116, bad ECT
Part on order from FCP , good time to replace that coolant, too.
This is the famous car I bid at 107k and then with glasses on, realised it had 187k. The Creator smiled upon me and delivered a high mile, stupidly well-maintained car with new tires and working 40F delta AC , with lots of good maintenance markers.
Filters fluids timing belt all recently done and an interior…..

Replaced ect with the Meyle as well as thermostat and thermostat bolts. The Meyle does not have the bleeder valve like the OE
I moved the fuel rail to get a good chisel on the rear ect bolt to get it moving, then got it off with the spiral extractor on the Torx head
Thermostat replacement on all p80 cars requires replacement of the two bolts with Volvo hardware.

Back in my agriculture days, we would just drill a 1/8" hole at the 'top' of every thermostat in order to make it easier to bleed. A necessity on both the larger diesels and especially on the little suzuki gasser engines John Deere used to use.

What happened to the jiggle valve? If the original has it, have to wonder other than cheapness) why aftermarket does not always have them. It also gives you a bit of leeway/warning time if the thermostat sticks shut.

It’s not on the Meyle. I think the OE Volvo was 2x in price so I went aftermarket on the donor car.
New Volvo does have to jiggle valve.
First 0C morning after repair, she cranks amd fires right up, with no fan run-on. Green check applied!
