Does a replacement DIM override the milage?

My dash is acting crazy. Dials flicker, stay stuck at zero or some random setting. Alphanumeric displays show random or all segments on. Currently my average milage display is working normally.

Sometimes the whole display works again.

I assume the DIM circuit board needs to have solder reflowed. However, I did pickup a second hand DIM from eBay.

But I am concerned that it might have a higher milage stored and would override the values stored elsewhere in the 06 s60's modules. I've heard of this happening on some s60's but perhaps it's just earlier models?

Any experiences or knowledge here?

I might just take out the current DIM and send it for repairs after the holidays. In which case, can the car be driven without the DIM installed for a few days.

No. And you'll get a mileage manipulation error that will be caught in the next annual inspection. But the donor DIM can be flashed to your mileage. Or you DIM can be repaired, and that can be the cheapest.

Reflowing solder and cleaning spring connectors should work. You will get a airbag light without the DIM, could use your phone GPS for speed.

Correction: Airbag light when dim repaired.

Is the DIM pinned to VIN on p2 cars? I thought this would not run unless flashed from old DIM?

On my '03 a replacement DIM needed to be cloned so I had my original rebuilt at XeMoDeX. You can drive it without the DIM but all sorts of things will not work, door locks, power windows, cruise, etc. Do disconnect your battery when removing it also.

I was able to swap in another used DIM on my 2003 V70, but the donor and receiver have to be of the same year PLUS certain code numbers on the back of the DIM have to match. In my case the donor DIM retained its original ( lower) mileage.
Before removing your old DIM disconnect the battery and don’t reconnect it until the donor DIM is connected. I screwed up that part of the process and had to have my local Indy clear the SRS fault.
