95 850: abnormal no-key chime

95 850: abnormal no-key chime

I remember my 98 models would chime with the door open if the key was in the ignition, not on. But my 95 chimes with the door open without a key.

It’s just happy that it doesn’t have OBD


A bit of lube in the key cylinder? Terminal S in the key triggers the chime

So do I put lube on the key and just jam it in and out a few times? Or do I just use one of those needleless syringes to inject lube? I assume terminal S is controlled by one of the pins? That's what it sounds like.

Lube key, insert.

I think the chime gets activated early in key insertion, ie you have to pull the key all the way out to stop

This did not fix the issue.

I played with my key last night. The minute the key touches the plate in the lock the chime starts.I’ll guess your lock cylinder is grounded somehow from old age.

“When the chimes stop. Pick up your gun. Colonel.,just try”

Update

If I drive at a side angle (ex. a hill), the open-door key-in chime will randomly start. Im not worried about fixing it though. Neighbor badly wants to buy it. Its safe to drive and and all that.
