850 Switch seats for electricals ones

Post by manovlov »

Hy Guys,

I have a question : as you may know, my interior was full leather blue color. But the seats cushions have flattened out. Leather is cool, you froze your back on winter, and cook it on summer. So i've found a fabric and vinyl interior, with good seats.

My questions :
  • Does it worth it to undress electrical leather seat to recover them with fabric and vinyl interior, to get electrical seats back ?
  • Does someone have already done this ?
  • Is there some trick to know before to realize the operation ?

It is not too terrible a job to do, but takes time and you will need wire 'hog' rings and tool to reinstall the covers, but as Robert shows you can use zipties instead.

The backs of the seats are the hardest to do. I can't recall if the 850 is the same as the V/S70 P80's where you have to remove the head rests to fit the covers. The later ones you have to push hard near the top of the rear of the seat in 2 places on hidden buttons to release the headrest. Other than that it is not terrible. Do one piece at a time so you always have reference should you forget what you need to do.

With the 850's the heated seat wiring in the middle of the seat base needs to be treated very carefully so as to not break the wires. Worst ca if one breaks you should be able to swap a spare seat foam over if they are also heated.

Good Luck!

Neil.
