Dead ECU/ECM on 2012 S60 T5

Post by ctrautve »

Serpentine belt snapped on me, the engine shut down, and I saw nearly every on-dash error code in a span of 5-6 seconds as I drifted car to a stop. Car would not restart after that, so we had it towed to the house. Fortunately, the serpentine belt failure did not affect the timing belt (I checked this out fully). I replaced the bit tensioned and belt, but still had no crank/no start. Tested all of the associated fuses and relays—all good. Reset the ECU/ECM and still no start. Sent the ECU/ECM out for repair and just got a call that said the processor is bad and they can’t fix. So now I need to buy a new ECU/ECM from Volvo. My question: will the ECU/ECM come preprogrammed for my VIN or do I have to tow my car up to the Sarasota Volvo dealer to have the ECU/ECM programed? I’m hoping I can somehow buy it preprogrammed for my VIN or have the ECU/ECM programmed without having to go through the towing option (17 miles). And if Matthews Volvo can preprogram it before the ECU/ECM is shipped to me, you have a guaranteed sale.

Welcome to MVS, ctrautve. Sorry to hear about your S60.

It's mated to the car via VIN. You can either pay the dealer, or if you're good with electronics/PCs, try VIDA mating process with a used ECU. XeMODeX might be able to help, they're a MVS sponsor, tell them I sent you.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!
