1991 940 T maf connector pin missing

Post by ashyxoom »

Hello there everyone!

I have a 1991 Volvo 940 turbo and Im unsure of the exact mileage (the odo stopped at 156,000~) but I estimate around 200k miles. It was made for the North American market as far as I know. A few months back I was driving and heard a metallic noise I had thought was in my exaust or turbo related and lost power. I mean Id press the gas pedal and it would barely creep along and it wouldnt shift up or boost at all. Well I checked codes and one was pointing to the air mass meter aka the mass airflow sensor. It had a bosch on it but I looked at it and some kind of material had gone through the maf. So I ordered one (a walker brand but I bought the car with a bosch) and installed it. It still ran rough so I performed a reset I actually found on this site and it was good for a while except for the rpms jumping slightly on idle. After the reset the check engine light went off, recently it came back on and it pointed to the maf connector or wire. Well today I took the maf connector off and noticed a pin was missing  I had pulled back the rubber cover to see if it had gotten dislodged only to not find it at all. I also wonder if there was a version of this car with a 5 pin connector on the maf sensor? I highly doubt this as I havent found any so far. It is running pretty rough on idle/warmup so any advice or help is appreciated! There are a number of things Ive done on the car since purchasing it last year in April I have yet to compile a list but if youd like one let me know!

Thanks!
Ashy

Update: after doing some research Ive learned that my car originally came with a 5 pin connector so that wasnt my issue.

However, I have discovered that most new MAF Sensors are made without the rectangular burn off wire that is in the OE Bosch sensors. So now Im just having considerable issues sourcing a new one of those.

So my problem is solved but not really. :?

Thanks for reading,
Ashy
