Also had to JBWeld the console lid…ugh these plastics.
Correction: Volvo eco-friendly self-decomposing plastics. Toyota plastics of that age will never degrade in your lifetime. 20 years later it is as soft and emitting stinky carcinogen fumes as the day it rolled out of the assembly line.

Frustratingly many of these plastics are no longer available and junkyard pieces will be just as brittle. One win I had was a FCP warranty replacement on a power seat trim piece. Luckily they still had a replacement.

I bought cheap 3D-printed ones on ebay. No soft rubber piece, but cheap and available.

The rear brakes needed an overhaul. It took forever to pull away the rotor after releasing the parking brake as described in VIDA.
There are 7 critical bolts on each side - 4 for hub, 2 for caliper, and 1 for axle. VIDA says to use new bolts. Hub by FAG; and rotor and pads by Bosch Quietcast.

Can I reuse these bolts with blue Loctite after cleaning its threads.

TIA!

New bolts have a bigger head, less risk of stripping them.

Hub can get very hot, common Loctites melt and become lube. I would use something different.

Unique XC90 problem, spare tire rust. When the spare was used last summer it was quite ‘manky’ as the Brits would say. 100% rust on rim. Since I had the time I dropped it down and wire wheeled the lose paint and rust flakes and hit it with Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer Spray Paint. Solid steel underneath, should be good for another 21 years. Added two coats of rubber conditioner to the tire too. Tire looks in ok shape, at least it’s out of the sun under there.

Painted faded door handles and wiper arms. New wipers all around. Only item left before handing it to my daughter-in-law is inner and outer tie rods. I think I’ll let my Indy handle that one, have done it before but running out of steam. Good to get all the little stuff done to make it more presentable.

scot850 wrote: 14 Feb 2026, 08:30 On the older style with the brass fitting I have had issues with the seals for the brass fitting leaking. Fortunately a good old fashion radiator show was able to repair it for me. If the plastic is leaking, then it may have a crack starting in it. From my experience, that is usually caused by a failed engine mount under the crank pulley allowing the engine to move and flex the radiator connections on that side.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't see it due to my post not being quoted in yours.

1) The brass fitting radiator is OE design?
2) Current radiator is black plastic so it's molded as part of radiator and new design? Assumption is it's a replacement already?
3) If the front engine mount, the one on the passenger side has dropped it is causing stress on the other end of the radiator? Kind of pivoting the other side up due the two center ones acting as the center of a teeter totter?
.
Blessings,

Yes the passenger side engine mount under the crank pulley when it fails allows the engine to rotate at that end and due to the radiator upper hose allow it it torque the radiator on the top hose on RHS of car. We had this issue with a friends S60 AWD and the mount was really bad.

On the P2 radiator I don't believe it has a brass fitting, that was on a P80 -98, my error.

Neil.

A few days ago I had a productive evening working on the xc90 2.5T. Did an oil change, flushed all the 10+ year old brake fluid out and replaced with pentosin. Hunted down a leak in the intercooler system and fixed. Reinstalled the radiator skid plate thats been sitting in my garage for like 2 years.
