2016+ VIDA and DICE INFO

Does anyone have any info on the DiCE for 2016+ cars I know the vida is all online subscriptions now. But I can't fine the DiCE for the newer cars, only the 2014d. Any info would be greatly appreciated

There is nothing for SPA models. The VIDA version since 2015 is a live batch load for the profiled vehicle with some additional functions loading as selected.. The SPA and CMA use ethernet to vehicle connection which will migrate to wireless via a special access point device soon.

For let's say 2018-2021 XC90 cars, what is the recommended computer diagnostic system?

Cn90 I think it will all depend on your budget, interests, level of problems that you would like to tackle.
The "proper" way would be to buy DOIP cable($150-180), followed by downloading volvo software and pay to volvo for what you need. (I believe they offer short-term subscriptions).
Alternative route: buy very capable reputable scanner(autel, launch, topdon..) with ability to handle "over the air" configuration via once again paying volvo for access.
Most realistic option: gen yourself a midgrade scanner in 300-500 range and use it to read codes, graph data, look life data, have access to multiple special functions for testing. With the help of the tool narrow the problem and then bring it to volvo dealer to handle necessary calibrations/adaptations of the new parts.
Long story short- if you have multiple spa cars that you plan to keep long-term, better get yourself dedicated tool. If you have various makes/models- midgrade tool will probably be more cost effective.
I hate this method of money londering by car manufacturers. I am still hating volvo for 98v70xc maintenence reset which only could be done via tool(thank you chinneese friends and ebay).

Upon a short read, it looks to me like there's basically nothing there for consumers, the legislation is mostly about providing shops ("certain other persons") with the capability to make repairs.

Combine that with the fact that almost no states have enacted any such laws (as of 2023), and you have a clear answer to your question as to why no none has sued Volvo or any other companies, unless there has been more to this legislative push since 2023. Which is, of course, extraordinarily unlikely in the current US political climate.

For our P5s, a three-hour subscription is a reasonable start -- capturing and sharing CN90 style writeup at MVS.
Our 2020 V60CC will need EPB released for rear brake service.

Over the last 25-30 yrs owning BMWs and Volvos, the only time I ever needed proprietary software
was when my 1998 BMW 528i developed wheel sensor issues. I quickly diagnosed it, new Bremi wheel
sensors went in and all is good.

Question for those owning Volvo after VIDA era (VIDA is up to 2014 I think)...

- For 2016+ XC90, can I get away with the generic OBD-II code reader I have at home?

- I am just trying to find out how often you need to use Volvo software for 2016+ models, and since this
involves subscription and costs for a few-day access etc (which I think is robbery), how often do you
need to diagnose Volvo proprietary issues?
