Yeh I thought the same about my red block 740 wagon, low tech, simple to wrench on.
I killed it 8 yrs ago but found lots of v70 on the market, bought a $2K cheapo and its been quite cheap these 8 yrs.
no electronic problems except the alarm and the awd, both are deactivated.

Did you pull a fuse for the alarm module under the passenger fender? Is so which?
