Re: 94 850 Turbo Sedan - Runs Rough Until It's Restarted
OK, now I'm confused. I just put the car up on ramps to look at the underside of the turbo flange and it appears that the nuts on the bottom of the flange are on the manifold side (red arrow). From the top side, I thought the bottom nuts were missing, but it looks like the bottom studs go through the turbo flange and then the nut is put on the manifold side. Is it supposed to be like that? I thought all four studs were supposed to be in the manifold and the nuts were all supposed to be on the turbo side.

Never mind. I just watched a clear video that shows the the 850 turbo has two studs in the turbo flange (with nuts on the manifold side) and two studs in the manifold (with nuts on the turbo flange side). So this appears to be normal.

Alternate sides for the turbo flange is common on all the Volvo turbo variants, I’m pretty sure.
