Whoa, now we're getting somewhere. Sounds like I might need to take it somewhere to have the preload set properly.

Just replace the hose first. It’s the fatter one that runs to the intake manifold that pulls the turbo off, not the thin one going to the turbo control valve.

I replaced the snorkel and hoses today. Smoke seems to be coming from the base of the wastegate actuator.
Seem like you can get a new wastegate actuator for about $100. Remove heat shields, remove pin and disconnect actuator arm, remove two bolts holding the actuator onto the turbo unit, and pull off the little rubber hose. Sound about right?
