This car is rapidly becoming yet another PITA. We are currently waiting for a new Throttle body after Volvo replaced the fuel pump under warranty (last one only lasted 40k miles). Also had the MAF cleaned as it was gummed up. Oh, and the alarm service required note is up as well.
The issue in question is the car not wanting to come out of park. This has happened a few times apparently and even happened at the dealer last week after being driven there without this issue.
Now after it was dropped off at my house by the owner, I went to move it as they had parked it in front of my neighbours house. Needless to say it would not go out of Park.
The side cover was off the center console on the LHS. I was able to reach down and fiddle blind with the cable and it clicked and then started working again.
Is there an issue with the transmission cable that I can check for to understand what is happening, and then try to figure out how to fix it?
Any input on this as I have not heard of issues with this in the past other than on this car.
Thanks.
Neil.

I wonder if the issue is with the column lock? That's where the other end of that cable to the shifter goes. You could inspect it pretty easily by removing the steering column plastic cover and see if its installed properly. I'd remove the cable and maybe spray some dry lithium grease in there.

Thanks for the info and the link. I think the cable is definitely sticking as if you reach into the yellow connector and just nudge it it moved and then it will move out of Park. I'll try lubing it this weekend when I get the car into the garage for the throttle body swap.
