I’ve actually wondered this as parts I found were normally cheaper by a fair margin in America, and my brother once was stranded with a broken axle. All in I’m pretty sure he was better off fixing it down there and driving it back as opposed to paying double the axle price up here. Just don’t tell the border people you got work done on it so taxes don’t get involved

Ocelot gave us a run down of labour rates in the EU sometime back. I was amazed how reasonable they were.

Punch list they give may be valid but not urgent.

If I need Volvo OE parts I generally check both sides of the border. With free shipping from some of the on-line Volvo dealer parts departments, they generally work out cheaper than US supplied parts by the time you factor tax and international shipping.

Aftermarket, I mostly use Rock Auto for known brands as their shipping includes cross border charges and tax.

EBay is another useful source for OE parts. Again you have to watch shipping as sometimes they are way more than the part and can be be ridiculously stupidly high. If they have EBay shipping it can be pretty reasonable.

Biggest issue with cross border shipping and parts is if the part is bad, the return shipping is so high it often cost more than just junking the part and buying again.

I forgot to add the best part, they will "wash the car" exterior (no charge) that's included in the $5999

I think I may be way off on that labor rate, Ill try find it and post here. Poll is open to changes. I still havent had been able to look at the list they sent me overseas.
