I did do that actually , a real manual gauge inside the car. Initial cold start is 44 psi drive about 5 miles it slowly drops to around 24 psi at low RPM . then all of a sudden drops to basically zero. Pull over shut it off for 5 minutes and I'm back at 24 psi drive a few miles then drop to zero.

So I drove it over to the guys house stopping when it lost pressure , it is about 7 or 8 miles , parked it and did see some bubbles on the stick.

So he ordered a bunch of stuff and I guess we will drop the pan and see if it is the O-ring issue. Is it that the rings leak when the oil gets hot , or the oil is getting frothy ? I watched a youtube video , doesn't look awful , I have one of those cross hoists if we want to lift the engine in the chassis , probably block the front wheels up a foot or so .
he is going to order the oil cooler seals also and maybe a few other things and let me know when it comes in, and he is holding my volvo hostage in the meantime

This is the kit that includes all the seals inside the oil pan and the two o-rings for sealing the oil pan to the bottom of the engine block/oil pump.

It also has the o-ring for the base of the dipstick, the two o-rings for the oil pipe inside the oil pan connecting the oil filter to the oil cooler, o-ring for the oil pickup to block junction, and a bunch of paper seals you won't use for a non-turbo Volvo.

This oil pan sealer works good:

It can be purchased at local auto parts stores.

Good luck!

End of project DEBRIEF!
oil pressure is restored . The manual gauge is still in place but initial cold start i see over 60PSI , once its warmed up driving around I see 45 PSI down to 25 or so at idle in gear. Never below 20 psi

I put 8 3 foot long 2x12 planks under each front wheel it gave me plenty of height to work. couldn't get the bolts at the front end of the engine so I had one of those cross hoists I put it on and lifted just the front end of the motor. to unload that motor mount and remove it . moved the lines out of the way and after pulling off the cooler the pan came right out.

I am annoyed I meant to take some pics but forgot. Basically the o ring around the largest hole was torn and a piece of it was missing. I believe that either goes to the top end or leads to the cooler. It was the larger of the 2 free Orings at any rate. The small one was intact as was the one on the pickup and the cooler to pan rings were fine as were the rings on both ends of that tube that goes to the filter area .

I am almost 90% prepared to blame that torn Oring , however the pickup screen was very blocked up also with large granular carbon chunks so that couldn't have been helping either.

The inside of the pan was nasty and with the baffles and whatnot was time consuming to clean.

The pan rail doesn't leak which is nice because even after sitting 2 days oil was still running down the rear driver side inside corner of the block and getting on the pan rain within a few minutes of wiping it off.

Maybe I will put the idiot light sensor back on after a week or so. The gauge is obviously brilliant but the line where it had to be run is in the way of a bunch of things and its a hard copper line so unhooking it will mean new ferrules each time. Plus its a scary item to be near the battery cable and rear of the alternator. Its extremely conductive , i was reaching in there when I was hooking it up and touched it to the starter solenoid briefly which burned a nice red line across the back of my other hand . Good lesson though about disconnecting a battery when working. 8 feet of hollow uninsulated wire grounded to the block is an accident just looking for an idiot who isnt paying attention . And a delay which required a trip to autozone for a second copper tubing kit for 16 dollars......... Doh!
