2006 XC70 2 calipers will not bleed Topic is solved

LR & LF calipers will not bleed even with 15psi pressure on reservoir. The other 2 bleed fine. I removed the bleeder screws and cleaned the orifice in the caliper. Brakes work great & no additional wear on rotors or pads. Can I increase pressure above 15 psi or add pressure by depressing brake pedal?

- Do not increase the pressure, the reservoir may blow up.
- Get a 2nd helper to do it the old-school way (pressing the brake pedal) without pressure.

Solved. I closed all the bleeders and released the pressure on the reservoir, started the car, and applied the brake a couple of times. Re-pressurized the reservoir and the caliper bled ok.

Had a similar issue recently. A young guy I help with his V50 T5 AWD had fitted a new (rebuilt) caliper but could not get any fluid out it no matter what he did. We tried using a pressure bleeder and bled the whole system but even with a new hose, it still would not bleed. I disconnected the flexi, removed the bleed screw and nothing would come out of it even with 90 psi of air.

He got another rebuilt caliper from the supplier but bought a Nugeon which is my go-to reman brand. This weekend he was back with fluid leaking. These cars have hydraulic parking brakes operated by a cable. It was leaking around the parking brake spindle!

Bleeding these systems can be a challenge. I have yet to try see if Vida will bleed the system or even the ABS unit.

Never had this problem. I have a Motiv pressure bleeder, but years ago switched to another Motiv, a vacuum pistol-type that bleeds by sucking fluid from bleeder screw.

VIDA of course helps with air trapped in ABS.

I’m pretty sure everyone in a Iowa has a Farmall for harvesting potatoes. In their spare time they perform research on maize biology.

1951 Farmall M, gas, tire chains & 3-point hitch with 8' blade for clearing snow. Added electronic ignition and block heater for cold weather starting. Few potatoes here but the Iowa State Ag department does a lot of maize research.
