Ok, would someone please let me into the secret how to get the mirror cap on my car? Only Volvo makes a variety of mirrors, on P2 wagons, but 3 variations over the 01-07 years and V70.
I am trying to remove the mirror caps to see if they will swap over to my later 07 mirrors which had the turn signals in them. As using the turn signals requires a fair amount of re-wiring, I am happy to do without. Originally I thought the current caps on my car would not fit, but now I am not sure and think they might which would save me having the later caps painted to match the car.
Removing the glass from the 07 mirrors was easy, but of course the 00-04 is different. Nearly broke the mirror glass and mirrors trying to pry them off. Went back and relooked and found the removal is completely different. So having removed the glass I was expecting the same hole on the outer end of the mirror casing would have a hole through which you put a protected blunt screw driver and lift up popping the cover loose. The instructions are in Vida for that.
However, there are NO instructions on how to remove the 04-06 mirror cap. Even when looking on line all you get are videos for the 07- versions with the built in turn signals.
Please enlighten me! I did find one video where the guy talks briefly about it but does not show you anything other than how to refit them once painted.
I have tried prying along the top edge but all I do is mar the edge of the plastic even using plastic tools.
Thanks,
Neil.

Flipping typical. Once again I answered my own question! After posting the question above I went back for another internet troll, and finally found this one!

Good old FCPEuro and their help videos! About 20 secs in the guy shows you the really simple wat to remove the cap without even removing the glass! I just went down to the garage and had the cover off in about 20 secs. The secret was pushing down reasonably hard at or near that top inner corner, and then a gap will appear between the cap and the rear black/grey section. Then push the tip of the bone tool backwards and into the gap under the black section and the top literally popped off!
Bad news, was when I tried to check if they fit my 07 mirrors they do NOT!
They are too short and narrow. So I will have to get mirror caps painted.
Oh, well. I am hoping to go see a paint shop outside Calgary I had recommended to me to see about some paintwork repairs to the 00 V70R and maybe see if I can leave the caps there with the paint and ask them to paint the caps for me!
I can then pick them up when I hopefully take the R to them.
Neil.
