Here's the primary issue I have about Solar, my electricity bill is small enough to be inconsequential, as Abscate points out, and currently I won't live long enough to break even, and I'm not worried about the "climate" as so many others are these days.........I just don't want a mess of solar panels on the roof of my house or the associated wiring and panels etc. in my basement. I think solar panels on ones roof are hideous and provide limited benefit to anyone. We also get baseball sized hail where I live every summer and they still build new houses and put vinyl siding on them that gets smashed to bits. This solar panel thing just sounds like an industry where everyone wins but the consumer/ end user.

Not to mention, poor panel installation may make a roof leak.
AND, panels must be removed to repair or replace the roofing.
I still like the solar panel concept, just not the practical details of installation.

Another aspect of this that gets my goat is the decades-long message WE DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME TO SAVE THE WORLD, yet I guarantee to install panels on my roof I'd have a dozen county and/or city paperpusher inspectors all over me, if not the HOA president breathing down my neck, driving by, noting things on a notepad.
I'm basing that off of simply trying to put my house in Denver on the rental market. I had to do tens of hours of work over 2+ months, and spend hundreds of dollars, to satisfy the city before I could rent out my own house. I can't imagine a solar panel install would fall outside of regulatory hell, but I admit I haven't tried it so these are assumptions.
