Hello all,
I am having a strange issue with my 2007 xc90.
I turn it on from cold, all is fine, then after maybe 3-5 minutes it revs up and shifts into neutral. The gear indicator on the dash does not say neutral, it says whatever the gear selector is in, but no power goes to the wheels, and the parking break is not active. The breaks still work, and the break lights too. If I turn the car off and on, it goes back to behaving normally, but will then repeat the issue after a little driving.
I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this, or if anyone has an idea what to check next on the car.
I have access to a VIDA laptop, just not sure what to look at.
My current thought is to replace the transmission control module.
Let me know if anyone has a better idea, thank you for your help.
Ian

TCM? That sounds very very expensive. The issue is strange, but w/o proper diagnostic i would rather not dump so much money and labor. I am jot sure if new TCM would need to be reprogrammed as well. Since it is 2007, maybe there is some wear on the linkage between cable and gear switch that can possibly do this? One can start with reading the codes with vida and see if you will have any hints of what is wrong. I would honestly bring to dealer and pay a diag fee to know what is going on and what this job entitles(issue, parts needed, labor to replace part(s), is the programming needed?) In case it would be a tcm, them i would explore cloning or repair services like xemodex. Hope helps

That’s a solenoid problem. Try a series of drain and fills to see if you can get it unstuck. If not, you have to open it up and replace the solenoid. Don’t mess with the TCM , it’s the most reliable part of the system

I have a similar problem in my 04 XC70. I'll start with drain and fills as abscate suggests. Which ATF are we using Mobil 3309 or Aisin T-IV?
