I wouldn't mess with the axle seals on a P2 car if they are not leaking. The P2 axle seals don't actually contact the axle shaft, they seal a cup that surrounds it. So far, I've not had a P2 axle seal leak in my three high mileage cars.

P80 car yes, P2 car no, that's my routine on axle seals when the CV axle is out.

Different issue with AWD cars as they can leak on the axle seals between the RH drive axle and the angle gear. FWD not a big issue as per Erik.

When replacing the passenger side (right) axle must one be careful when inserting the axle into the differential housing not to displace the axle seal? Or is this not really an issue? Thanks!

Not an issues bc the axle goes into a "cup"...
The axle seal circles around the cup.
I made a sketch in that DIY...
