Hello,

2006 v8 XC90. Starting the car for the first time each day is blowing fuse 11. That fuse has the ac clutch, throttle pedal, and e-fan. It doesn't have an e-fan so that only leaves the other two. I do not have anything turned on like the ac when i start it. If i leave the car running and change the fuse it does not blow the new fuse however the ac does not work.. If i scan the car i get 4 codes after the fuse blows. Two ac clutch codes, throttle pedal code, and engine oil quality sensor code. If I clear the codes and drive the car the ac works and it will not blow the fuse all day. I can drive the car all day and restart it multiple times and it will not blow the fuse. However the next morning first start blows the fuse. Repeat the process and it works the whole day.

I am leaning towards a short in the wire harness that runs down the front of the engine and connects the ac compressor/clutch and oil quality sensor in the oil pan. That wire gets cooked by the exhaust and engine heat based on its location. Mine does not look to be in the best shape. With that said i would expect the short to be intermittently present even after i change the fuse clear the codes and drive the car. Only happening on the first start doesnt make sense. Seems like at one point Volvo sold that harness, but I am having trouble determining that now. I was able to find a similar scenario on a XC90 that the dealer said was the harness and replaced it. I guess its possible its the ac clutch itself and once the engine is running the short in the clutch isnt there maybe?

Just curious if anyone has any other thoughts on what this could be. I dont think the throttle pedal has anything to do with it. I think it just sets the code because its on fuse 11 that blows.

Thank you for any help.

The biggest "consumer" here is likely ac clutch.
I would just disconnect the clutch wire at the compressor and try to start the car next day and see what happens.
I doubt you have issies with harness since the fuse would be most likely blowing from the vibration and movement of working/driving car.
If your issue would be resolved after disconnect of ac clutch, I would go to fcp and buy a nice quality Behr unit and pay some good shop to install it. You are in Texas so AC is a must.

See above on the ac clutch.

Deep knowledge ..the p2 series activates the ac clutch on cranking to make sure no pooled AC refrigerant is in the compressor, it uses the low speed cranking to clear the compressor, even if ac is turned off.

Vova585 is on point here, try disconnecting the clutch on a cold start
