2000 V40 "Quiltbox" - P0101 MAF issue

Hi, folks. Been awhile.

When I got it, this banged-up-silver-on-ratty-gray Mitsubishi in a Volvo suit - but it wears it well - was called the "Quilt Liner" owing to a custom quilted headliner that had just won 3rd place in an agricultural fair's quilting contest.

I'll get into the full details in another post, but suffice to say someone else had a chance to take it for free ahead of me, and passed it up. Yes, beer was being consumed when it was re-dubbed the "Quiltbox."

Among its many flaws was two codes for the MAF, one pending, one confirmed. I ordered a replacement from IPD, it was aftermarket. I installed it, saw instantly improved idle... and just as instantly, the pending code was back. It was confirmed after a few minutes of idling, and the MIL came back on.

Should I be expecting clean performance from an aftermarket part that IPD has said is compatible? Just taking the room's temperature on that. I remember when the advice was don't touch aftermarket MAF's, but, it was all that was available, and it was from IPD.

Alternately, is there another reason that a good MAF would trip a code? Is it perhaps lying and I really need a new MAP, or something?

just a quick guess but it could be a vacuum leak somewhere.
