Keep in mind, the rear cam bolt for the "dog" is just a low-torque, small bolt like m8 (uses a 10 mm socket).

I had a stalling problem with a hot engine on my older MK3 Golf. The thing is, the valves on my 3rd cylinder appear to be slightly bent. How is that even possible? The timing belt broke at some point and the engine was rebuilt, lots of things were replaced, but I didn't notice any visual damage to the valves (they all looked completely fine), so I reused them (I should have gotten new ones). On a cold engine, the motor would start flawlessly, but I think that at normal operating temperature the metal expands and no longer lets the valve move freely. So after I stopped the car and tried to start the engine again, it wouldn't run.

I think most VW engines of that era were interference engines like Volvos. If the engine rotates without the timing belt intact , the valves bend. That has to be replaced to be fixed

Replaced the cam seal, vented a oil filler cap and drove it around the parking lot. May be getting overconfident but... I think I'm now going to do the PCV kit myself... Dale
