Question about possible new addition to the fleet

My son stumbled on to a 2004 S60R. 140K miles. Needs some minor work (so they say).
I don't know anything about the P2 platform. Are they worthwhile ? Reasonably easy to work on ?

Not terrible to work on. Electrics are the big issue on P2 'R' models. Also they should have the '4C' shocks which are hard to come by and very expensive. The control sensors for the suspension control on the shocks is also NLA last time I checked.

This will give some idea of what he has found so far and what to look out for. If they are good, then they are great cars but with any R be prepared for stuff to go wrong.

Biggest issue is the possibility of the blocks cracking due to the design on that particular engine. That issue is not only an issue with these later 5 cylinder engines on the R but relatively more common. There are preventative measures for that, but it will require the head to come off.

So bottom line, go in with your eyes WIDE open and if there is a good independent or Volvo dealer nearby, it is worth a full inspection.

Lastly take a code reader with you, ideally one that can read all the modules.
