If you can read the ECC to see where it thinks the damper is I did map the codes in a recent thread

Agreed -- that's a great way to troubleshoot the dampers.

When I made my mistake by being 90 degrees off on the damper motor, the fix was to remove the damper motor and manually rotate the damper itself. I used an old chopstick that I shaved down to fit inside the opening in the damper and rotated the damper to the correct position. Then I reinstalled the damper motor and re-ran the calibration procedure, and it was successful.

I recall jimmy57 posting that he had seen a 1999 that the ECC got bricked when it went out of calibration , so proceed cautiously

I don't know if we're overcomplicating things a bit right now? :)
Just to be clear: I lifted the large gear with the sliding contacts, cleaned the grease off the track, and put the gear back on roughly how I remembered it... Maybe a few teeth off from before. But definitely not 90 degrees wrong.

If this is a big problem after all, what else can be done now? Or is the damper motor ready for the trash now and can no longer be calibrated when I install it ?
Or let it run to the stop and back using a 9V battery?

I'm starting to not know what I'm more afraid of: trying to get the old damper motor out and this one back in, or the calibration :( :o

If there is a way you can read where the ECU thinks it should be you can set the gear and arm at the right position per the map thread

@abscate

I don't know which tool to use for this, and which map thread do you mean ? :?:
So should I install it ? Calibrate it or not?

hmm

@abscate

Ah yes, I can read this with 850 Android App
My broken damper motor is stuck at 100%.

And how is that supposed to help me if I install the 'new' damper motor? I mean, when I install it, I have to do the calibration anyway, and then it will be back in the correct position?

I'm a bit confused :)

I think I would install the new damper motor wiring plug but leave the arm disconnected.

Now turn on the car and see if the ECC damper reading and the position make sense?

Does that help?

So you mean just connecting the damper motor, setting the temperature on the ECC control unit, and reading the position in the app?
