Aftermarket Horns

My low tone horn went out on my 850 recently so was looking for replacement. Always perceived the stock horns as adequate so tried some from a PnP car but they didn't work either, so started researching aftermarket horns.

I consider horns a safety feature. I was actually watching my rear-view mirror once while at a stoplight, when I noticed the guy behind me coming in fast and could tell he was distracted (not watching the road ahead). So I laid on my horn (even though he was behind me)! From my mirror I watched him look up, has an "oh sh*t" expression on his face and jammed on his brakes, just avoiding rear-ending my car. It really does pay to be aware of your surroundings..

In any case, after pretty extensive research, I came up with these, and I am pretty happy with them:

Note there is a USA version of this product on amazon, but it sells for almost 2x the price. From what I can tell, the only difference is the broken english instructions in the US version. Which you don't need; they're horns w/o any polarity.

Sounds like a railway engine! I do like the deeper tone. Junkyard horns at this age are a complete warranty, especially as we don't use them a lot they corrode internally.

I like a good horn. They've got to be "substantial."

I put air horns in my sporty coupe in college, Thought I was cool. But at 15 to 20 degrees F the compressor froze up, and they made an embarrassing high-pitched squeak.

My Volvo horns are good - "Get out of my WAY please!" "Do NOT step off that curb, thank you!"

I drove an Outback the other day and it had a pathetic "beep..." But maybe that's intentional? If you had big train horns people would look for the big thing coming at them and not see you...?

I've heard in Europe you have two buttons with a "sorry, excuse me" horn and a "HONK!!"
