1999 S70 GLT - fuel filter query

Good Morning Everyone,

Time for a fuel filter replacement. I am curious on this one. Mahle and Bosch are in the OE parts list trusted brands. I dont see any to avoid.
I leaning towards a Bosch because FCP is running a sale, however out of curiosity I thought Id ask.
Thoughts or experience for Wix, Beck Arnley and Hengst?

I believe Mahle is an OEM for majority of Volvo. (Look made in Austria). With Hengst and Bosch being made at the same plant in Bulgaria(based on my memory and understanding, so treat it as such). To me, Bosch quality is down in the recent years, so i prefer OEM(blue box), OE which is usually Mahle/Mann. Bosch/Hengst as a 3rd option. I am not buying anything else(unless absolutely not available) since dont want to have surprises with poor quality parts and fitment which will cost me time, nerves, headache.

My preference has always been Bosch on the P80 fuel filter.

Abscate - perhaps im premature. I have 60k on my fuel filter. Recently I noticed that when starting my car there is sometimes a slight hesitation and it may take a few extra cranks to start. Not by any means consistent. My first thought was fuel filter (4 years, 60k miles) but you indicate that they are 100k maintenance items in your fuel filter thread.
I am going to keep an eye on it. Could also be a number of things in fuel or spark delivery.

Of course Fuel filters can cause issues, but to be honest, I have never come across a car where it has been the issue in car running. I have seen filters that look like they were recovered from the Titanic and they have been fine. The only time it has been an issue is single events happening like a bad tank of dirty fuel, which again is rare.

If your car takes a bit to start it is more likely the check valve starting to fail causing fuel to drain back to the tank.

Try to prime the car by turning the key to Position II 2 to 3 times and see if it makes a difference. If it does then that is your issue. The other more likely issue is a slowly dying fuel pump. You can try measuring the fuel pressure at the fuel rail Schrader valve when you turn the ignition on the first time and see what you get.

It does no harm to change the filter at that mileage. That is close to 100kkm which is when I do them.

Thanks Neil, I will run some tests over the next few starts and see what gives. I was also thinking same thing on fuel pump, but I will test the pressure and see whats up

what is an acceptable pressure when cranking? I know when I was dealing with the dreaded lawnmower issue we talked about that with abscate but cant remember...too old..lol

as a side note I am also going to look at the plugs I am right around 30k for them
