installing a new reluctor ring on the driver side axle shaft I think the inner joint has gone out of position,
it flexes one way but binds in the other direction.
Its removed from the car now, is there any way to rescue the situation or does it need to come apart.?
If it needs to come apart do I need to order the big clamp plus the cinch tool pliers ?

It need to come apart or be replaced. Something in the inter CV joint is broken or jammed. Most likely a broken cage but could be debris jamming it. Either way it need to come apart or replace it.

I pulled the boot back, nothing broken, no debris, just seems out of position. One roller wheel is jammed.
When I pulled the shaft from the tranny it fell on the floor. duh.
I will try to persuade it with a machinists dead blow.

The Tripod CUP has stakes to hold the joint in place.
Look carefully, you will see the factory stakes on the CUP itself.
Either file the stakes a bit or stand it up and use rubber hammer to drive it in.
At factory, they install the tripod then used a staking tool to create a stake.
