Cam cover sealant.

It has been largely said that we must use the special adhesive for the cam cover and never ever use regular rtv. Well, in the future I will use RTV. After working for a while in a mechanics shop, trust me, using sealant for a lot of stuff is no a brainer.

I have a theory that the cam cover will be just fine with regular sealant than special adhesives. E.g this guy over here https://prorace-engineering.co.uk/produ ... ant-200ml/

I use yama-seal on my snowmobile crankcase halves, it works the same as the others.

When I bought my 98 V70 for $300 some 13 years and 110k miles ago, its main issue was it was spewing oil EVERYWHERE out all sides of the cam cover because the PO had taken it in for an oil leak. The mechanic pulled the cam cover to service it and put it back together using RTV.

After I fixed the PCV and pulled, cleaned and sealed the cover with anaerobic stuff, I had a great runner and we've had years of fun with the car.

Maybe you can do a better job of it, but I wouldn't go there with the RTV.

Its got to be rtv. Cheap, fast and will not alter cam behaviour(like lifting the cam cover).

You need an anaerobic sealant for the cam cover, not RTV. RTV needs to be exposed to water/air to cure, and it wont cure between the cam cover halves.

The Permatex or loctite product work fine and the $10 tube is enough. You just need a thin coating, if you can’t see the metal colours through the coat it’s too heavy
