They admitted they don't work with older Volvo's like 740's any longer so don't have much knowledge.
Anyway, it turns out his parents both have SPA Volvos (18 XC60/19 XC90) and he has been looking for a 740 for 2 years when this one came up cheap on FBM locally. He is thrilled to own it and has never really worked on cars before, but certainly shows an aptitude after a couple of weeks. The car has one rust blister on driver's door and a couple of small surface crusties on the rear fender lips. The clear coat is bad, but he hopes to eventually have the car repainted, but is focusing on getting the Stage 0 done and then onto the brakes and anything else.
I gave him a few pointer and offer to help if/when needed. Once he has it running again (mid-timing belt replacement), I said to bring it over and we can get it up on the hoist and look it over underneath for a smell of gasoline.
He also is trying to set up a local Volvo group which is great to hear.
Neil.
